about

Carina Zubela Ngila, known as Rynka, is a young rapper from Kinshasa. Starting her career in 2001 she has performed mostly in Kinshasa and Brazzaville. She came to hip hop as her preferred form of expression because it is very direct and in your face. With rap, there are no taboos and she feels like she can claim her rights and defend the cause of women.
Rynka admits that men find female hip hop artists hard and complicated. There are a lot of stereotypes to fight and that is the main reason why she is rapping hardcore while staying sexy. A well dressed woman attracts people’s attention. If you see a sexy lady on stage you ask yourself: what she’s gotta tell?
In her songs she is comforting women in distress, talking about their daily life, the difficulties they are facing and need to figure out. Putting herself in their place, Rynka becomes the voice of the women. “I get inspired in each circumstance of my life and I tell myself that there is somebody somewhere who is going through the same shit.”

People leading life far below and far above the poverty line, the city produces a sound that celebrates style in its diversity ... more
