“Washiba” derives from the Tshiluba word “Kashiba” (whistle), in the sense of howling entertainers or the poets announcing better days. It is also an acronym for “Worldwide Artistic Synergy for Human Integrity and Better Achievement”, with the objective to make art the lever for sustainable development.
Rocking the Kinshasa scene with their Mutuashi RnB style since 2010,a Washiba show is a row, lighting up an ambiance both comical and out of the ordinary. Everything is animated, the stage takes on life when they play, laugh, dance, rap, sing. They rattle off implausible stories in a mix at the same time curious, funny, superb, grotesque and gracious.
Led by Moise Ilunga, son of a big chief from Kasai province, their music is wild, ancestral, modern, invigorating and lively. This is what the Mutuashi RnB boils down to: it is a melting pot of traditional african rhythms, like the folk of Kasai province with RnB, James Brown attitude and some astonishing Michael Jackson reprises. A music, intelligent and popular at the same time, with some simple ingredients - passion, knowledge, spontaneity and theatrality.
